Celebrating World Heritage Day with Dig It! 2017

On April 18th 2017 I will be celebrating World Heritage Day with the Dig It! 2017 team. What is World Heritage Day you ask? Since this is Scotland's Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, we will be celebrating six iconic World Heritage Sites with an amazing array of events which have all been coordinated by Dig It 2017.

This lucky red headed blogger will be attending one of those events and it is a good one. 

On the 4th of Mark 1890, a certain iconic Scottish bridge had it opening day. This amazing feat of engineering took 8 years to construct and at the time of it's opening it was the world's longest single cantilever bridge span. Oh, yeah, and it featured in Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film The 39 Steps!

Have you guessed it yet? 

It's the Forth Bridge of course. 

This iconic structure received World Heritage Site status back in 2015 and I will be taking a taking a little trip back into town to celebrate Scotland's greatest man-made wonder.

Dig It 2017 will be hosting a fabulous Victorian Steampunk party and since it takes just 3 minutes to cross the Forth Bridge, guests will be treated to a wonderful array of 3 minute-themed entertainment. 

I personally can't think of anything better than dressing up like a character in Bioshock, sipping on cocktails and listening to some wonderful music provided by The Viper Swing Band. 

As well as the 3 Minutes in 1890: A Victorian Festival event, there will also be a Romans vs. Picts 5k + Great Roman Bake Off in Falkirk and Old vs. New: Battle of the Bands here in Edinburgh. 

The events are being coordinated by Dig It! 2017, the year-long celebration of Scottish archaeology, along with partners from each local community and funded for by EventScotland as a Signature Event for the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.

Each event is free but ticketed so make sure you don't miss out and head over to the Eventbrite page to claim your tickets or join the waiting list for currently sold out events.
