I was recently invited to The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen to try out their newly launched Afternoon Tea. Instead of being set in the usual lunch time spot, us bloggers and foodies were treated to what they called, Twilight Tea, which really is afternoon tea but set in the evening time!
Being a massive cake lover and a fan of this beautiful new restaurant, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store for us!
After being show to our table I was time to pick our tea of choice. I went for something a bit different with the Jasmine Silver Tip and we got treated with glass of Lanson Père et Fils Brut NV Champagne. Unlike normal afternoon tea where it tends to be just your usual sandwiches, scones and cakes, The Printing Press have a selection of savoury treats on offer; Hand-picked Crab with avocado and sieved egg, Pumpkin & Parmesan scone with cream cheese and a Red Onion, theme & goat’s cheese tart. Since I am not an onion lover, I had to pass on the tart but was happy with the other two which were full of flavour but the stand out for me, had to be the crab. The fact it quickly disappeared of everyone’s plate showed how popular it was!
Sandwich wise we were treated to Duck Egg mayo & cress and Uig Lodge smoked salmon & dill mayo. The duck egg was creamy and ended up being a nice change from your usual chicken egg mayo sandwiches whilst the smoked salmon was just gorgeous; we also found out that it is actually smoked in the Printing Press every morning.
Now onto the sweet stuff... The plain and sultana scones with raspberry jam and Stichill Jerseys clotted cream are beyond delightful. The scones are home-made and they have the texture and taste you really want from a good warm scone.
The Printing Press pride themselves on using the best of local Scottish produce which we got a sample of when it came to our cakes. we were treated to a variety of cakes; Lemon Meringue Pie, Dundee Marmalade Cake, Whisky & Heather Honey Slice, Passion Fruit Macaroon, Chocolate & Orange Choux Bun (which came with popping candy!) and lastly a Ecclefechan Tart. For me the major stand outs had to be the chocolatey heaven which was the Choux bun and the sharpness of that Lemon meringue pie.
From the cakes to the plates, every detail in the Printing Press’ Afternoon Tea is presented beautifully. The attention to detail was seen throughout the whole night and lived up to its stunning venue. I personally can't wait to go back to try out their dinner menu at some point as well as visiting their coffee shop; Burr & Co.
